The artist is an industrial designer, visual artist and jeweller based in Guatemala. Inspired by architecture, art and sculpture, her work comes from the union of classical goldsmithing techniques with innovative contemporary materials to create jewels that end up being sculptures for the body. 

When did you start to dedicate yourself to the world of contemporary jewelery?
14 years ago, 2004

What do you inspire when you start creating a new collection?
My inspiration comes from everyday life. It can be a texture, a talk with another person. My creative process comes from deep states of calm and the materialization of emotions.
 
What type of work or material do you prefer?
I like to experiment with different materials. Alternative and recycled metals such as aluminum, I think an interesting option that helps create more environmentally friendly products. Natural plant fibers seem to me an option that brings users closer to contact and natural consciousness.
 
 
What are your points of reference in the world of jewelry and contemporary art?
I live in Guatemala and for me is an important visual point and cultural reference the indigenous syncretism. A mixture of Mayan culture with conquest by Spain generate a visual language represented by signs and figures of their own that are used in textiles to make indigenous clothing.
 
On the other hand, to be an industrial designer, more than characters from the world of jewelry I am inspired by organic architecture and I am passionate about the aesthetics of modernism, Art nouveau, which gives way to the decorative arts and Art Deco.  Charles Rennie Mackintosh is a reference important for my aesthetics..
 
 
Three words with which you would describe the Artistar Jewels project.
Platform, exhibition, movement
 
What do you think about the jewelry that was shown this year? Has a particular creation fascinated you?
There is a high level presented in terms of the quality of the techniques. Is awesome. But I would like to see more proposals that dialogue with the experimentation of different materials and alternative metals to the precious ones.
 
Would you recommend other artists to participate in Artistar Jewels?
Yes, it is definitely an interesting platform that promotes contemporary jewelry.
 
What were the services / opportunities that most impelled you to participate in the event?
The opportunity to make my work visible in Italy as a gateway to Europe.
