By boldly choosing for a new and challenging direction, Mappie has obtained her goldsmith degree at the age of fifty. She is on a determined route going against the flow. She decides that design and thoughtfully selected materials, precious or non-precious, makes a jewel desirable. Her choice to make every jewel by hand, makes each of her pieces unique. 
 
- What is the name of your brand and what's the meaning behind it?
The name of my brand is ‘Mappie’ (my first name) with the addition of what I am ‘Edelsmid’ (goldsmith in Dutch). Mappie is a rare name and, just like my jewelry, special according to my environment.
 
 
- Where do you take inspiration from when you start creating a new collection?
For a new collection, I am mainly inspired by organic forms. Sometimes it is only a wavy line that fascinates me, that is the basis on which I work. While forging I get further inspired, I forge intuitively. (See pictures for my new collection)
 
- What kind of work or material or technique do you prefer to use?
I like to work with silver, brass and copper. The natural patinas that develop over time will enrich my design. My forging techniques are as they have been for centuries. Doing everything as traditionally as possible is time-consuming but brings the jewelry to life. 
 
 
- Three words with which you would describe the Artistar Jewels project: Surprising, adventures, uniting
 
- Have you been fascinated by any particular creation you saw in the Artistar jewels 2019 edition?
Not one in particular, all the diversity in the edition makes every jewel unique!
 
- What were the opportunities that most pushed you to participate in the event?
Opportunities that made me decide to participate:
Recognition of my work, my designs by a serious platform for contemporary jewelry.
Demonstrate that design makes a piece of jewelery valuable not the used material. 
 
- What do you think about the upcoming Milano Jewelry Week? Do you think Milano needed it?
Milan, as the fashion city of Italy, could use a special jewelry week. Jewelry, after all, completes an outfit and / or reinforces what the person wants to radiate.
