She has lived in London since the age of 19 where she has self-studied jewelry design and silversmithing. In her work the artist takes inspiration from her urban city environment and makes use of recyclable, unwanted & discarded materials to create precious-looking statement pieces.
- When did you start dedicating yourself to the world of contemporary jewelry?
I've been interested in crafts and jewellery since childhood, and have been a maker ever since - always as a hobby. I only started exploring contemporary jewellery seriously a few years ago and began by taking a silversmith course to learn some basics. From then i have been largely self-taught. I 've collected numerous books on the world of contemporary craft and jewellery, have explored contemporary designers and have worked in a contemporary jewellery gallery in London. All the while learning new techniques and studying contemporary design.
- What do you take inspiration from when you start creating a new collection?
?So far i have explored workiing with wood, silver, plastics, glass, and concrete. I haven't created an official 'collection' but I do find that my work is naturally forming collections as I learn what I like to work with. At the moment I am exploring textures in concrete and how I can incorporate recycled materials into my pieces. I take inspiration from my surroundings in East London.
- What kind of work or material do you prefer?
I love working with silver and concrete. I love making sculptural, organic shapes. I love experimenting with these materials.
- What are your points of reference in the world of contemporary jewelry and art?
I'm not sure i i'm answering this correctly, but I spent a year working ad hoc shifts in a contemporary jewellery gallery and discovered so many designers through this. Currently obsessed with Karl Fritsch.
- Three words with which you would describe the Artistar Jewels project.
Eclectic, inspirational, talent
- What do you think of the jewels that were on show this year? Have you been fascinated by any particular creation?
Varied, there are several that I'm already taking inspiration from and will explore further.
- Would you recommend to other artists to take part in Artistar Jewels?
It feels wonderful to see my work in such a professional setting alongside so many other talented designers and makers.
- What were the services / opportunities that most pushed you to participate in the event?
I wasn't sure I was of a standard to feature alongside so many amazing designers, but I thought I would find out! I'm pleased with how my work looks in the published book.
